Curriculum Vitae

Niš Art Foundation

The Niš Art Foundation (NAF) was established in 2005 as a non-profit organization. NAF’s goal is to motivate young artists and to promote them in Serbia at the multicultural level, while trying to attain vibrant cultural and artistic life in the city of Niš and Serbia.

The NAF was initially established by the late Radovan - Lale Djurić, a famous Serbian and American painter, with the support of other founders and members of NAF who are public figures and personalities from the domain of culture, willing to direct their energy towards creating cultural life of the highest and finest quality in our country.

The main focus of NAF was motivated by the need to provide support to young artists in Serbia since they are a marginalized group in our society. Consequently, the first accomplishment was the project “Youth 2006”. Within this project a contest for the national competition was announced  in  Serbia  and  Montenegro  calling for  the attention of young artists in the following disciplines: drawing, print, painting and sculpture. We were motivated by the need to provide young artists with financial support for further work and to enable the presentation of their work to the audience at the exhibitions in Niš and Belgrade (2005-2018) and in Novi Sad (2007-2012). The award fund was 18,000 EUR (1 st prize – 10,000 EUR, 2nd prize – 5,000 EUR, 3rd  prize – 3,000 EUR). Each exhibition was followed by printed catalogues with selected art works promoted in Serbia and in countries around the world. The project is important because of all these forms of assistance we provide to young artists to present their products and because of our efforts to empower these artists in the cultural market.

The project "Youth” is already fully established and well recognized in Serbia and the region. It is well-known as a platform for the establishment and promotion of new talents. It is dedicated to fostering and developing the values of the multi-ethnic and multicultural society of Serbia, as a modern European region and an open democratic society.

So far, NAF has accomplished all activities with the support and donations of the Company Philip Morris International and late Radovan - Lale Djurić, founder and president of the Executive Board of the NAF. Realization of our activities had been helped/supported by numerous partners, including Contemporary Art Gallery Niš; Art School Niš; Music School Niš; US Embassy in Serbia; University Library ‘Nikola Tesla’ Niš; National Theatre Niš; Serbian Ministry of Culture and Information; Ministry of Trade; Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Resources; Gallery of Matica Srpska Novi Sad; Atelje 212 Belgrade; PC Post of Serbia; Heritage House Belgrade.
